Case studies

Every case follows the same eight blocks, so two projects can be compared by scanning to the same place in each.

How to read these

Eight blocks, always in the same order

Most case studies are narrative of whatever length the story wants, which means two of them cannot be compared. These are not. Scan to the same position in any case and you are reading the same kind of thing.

  1. 01

    Title and result

What was built, and what changed — in one line, before any narrative.

  2. 02

    Client and context

Who it was for and what constrained it. Generalised where an NDA requires it, never invented.

  3. 03

    The challenge

The specific engineering problem. Not "a demanding schedule" — the actual technical difficulty.

  4. 04

    Our approach

What we decided and why, including the options rejected and the reason.

  5. 05

    Verification

How the design was proven before fabrication. Simulation, measurement, and what each was checked against.

  6. 06

    Results

What the finished design does, stated as figures rather than adjectives.

  7. 07

    Technology used

Parts, interfaces and toolchain, so you can judge the fit against your own stack.

  8. 08

    Related work

Other cases sharing a service, sector or technology, pulled by tag rather than by hand.

Verification is the block most competitors leave out, and the reason an engineering buyer believes the rest of the page. A result without a method is a claim; a result with the measurement behind it is evidence.

Publishing

What we will and will not print

These pages exist because clients agreed to them. That agreement sets the limits, and the limits are worth stating.

Published with permission

Nothing appears here without the client agreeing to it. A case study is a favour a client does us, not a right we retain in the contract.

Generalised under NDA, never fabricated

Where an agreement restricts detail, the client is described by sector rather than by name and the specifics are widened. Any case where that has happened says so on the page. What is never done is inventing a detail to fill the gap.

Figures are the ones measured

Every number in a results block came off an instrument or a report. Where we do not have a figure, the claim is cut rather than rounded into something that sounds better.
